Friendship Neurons

The brain is made up of billions of neurons. Neurons communicate with each other by connecting at points called “synapses”. These specialized areas are where chemical signals called neurotransmitters are passed. When the electrical activity within on neuron increases it can send neurotransmitters to the neurons that it is connected with. Here we show two different type of neurons that are often found in the cortex of the brain - an interneuron (left) and pyramidal neuron (right).

Fun fact: the connections between neurons are not constant, they have the ability to get stronger and weaker
